For close to three decades Chiranjeevi remained an icon for millions of fans and Telugu people across the world. He is Tollywood’s long-standing icon after and the best ever-commercial hero after Late NTR. Ruling for about 20 years as the numero uno star, Chiranjeevi became the face of the Tollywood.
Setting new trends as hero, he created new box-office records at every few years and also broke them himself. Chiranjeevi is not entirely a part of the Tollywood cult of second-generation heroes who were helped in no small measures by their successful actor fathers.
Trendsetter!
An intense performer and an actor par excellence Chiranjeevi was harbinger of new changes in Tollywood. To an audience, which was used to seeing over-aged hero's running laboriously from tree to tree, Chiranjeevi let the cat loose among the pigeons with his path breaking dances. At one stroke he danced his way into the hearts and minds of a million youth with Khaidi. Later in Pasivadi Pranam, he introduced ‘brake dances’ to the Telugu audiences and since then ‘modern dance’ has become synonymous with Chiranjeevi in Telugu films. Risky action stunts, realistic approach towards acting made him an instant icon to the then youth and the kids.
Great RAM
From his early days of playing small characters to villain roles to the status of megastar, he always was and has been a humble person - down to earth gentleman. Articulate and well-read Chiru has stupendous memory power. If you meet once, he will call by your name the next time around. Such is his RAM.
Mix of Commercial and artsy movies!
Chiranjeevi has essayed roles ranging from the bluntly commercial to the impressively personal and ambitious movies. After achieving the star of ultimate mass star among his generation, he then tried to prove himself as an actor. Aaradhana, Rudraveena, Swayam Krushi, Rudraveena were best examples. And he also produced (though his brother Nagababu’s name was put up on the screen) a well-intentioned and critically acclaimed Rudraveena.
Man of the Masses
Yet, people always remember for him his earthy characters and movies that made them wonderstruck, laugh at, moved to dance - Khaidi, Vijetha, Magadheerudu, Pasivadi Pranam, Kondaveeti Donga, Donga Mogudu, Kondaveeti Raja, Gharana Mogudu, Abhilasha, Attaki Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu, Gangleader, Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari, Rowdy Alludu, Hitler, Master, Choodalani Undi, Indra, Tagore and Shanakradada MBBS.
‘Mega’phone!
In a career spanning almost 30 years, he has done 148 movies so far. But his dream is to wield the megaphone. He wanted to direct his 150 th film but fate has other plans. He could not even complete his 149th film as actor and is stepped into politics.
Great star..
Undoubtedly, HE IS THE MAN in Tollywood, as Pawan Kalyan recently said. A Great star that this generation has witnessed. It is sad to see that the star who entertained us for two three decades his bidding adieu to films to don another might role as politician. A great era ends in Tollywood. We wish Megastar a Happy Birthday and all the best to him as the politician.
